A melting glacier in the Mont Blanc range of the French Alps.

The mountain in the background is the Aiguille Verte (4122 metres).
The Aiguille Verte was first climbed by Edward Whymper (of Matterhorn fame) on 29 June 1865.

As elsewhere in the world, the glaciers of the Alps are retreating as a result of global warming (climate change).
