Granite

Weathered granite.
Light illuminating frosted rocks in the steep headwall cliffs of a glacial corrie (cirque).
The cracks and fissures in the rock are caused by repetitive freeze-thaw cycles.
This type of weathering is known as congelifraction or frost riving.

Photographed at Coire an t-Sneachda, Cairngorms National Park, Scotland, in November.

Location: Highland Region, Scotland.
