Woodpigeon
A Woodpigeon, Columba palumbus, photographed in Gloucestershire, England, in November.
The woodpigeon, at 40 cms long, is the largest of Britain's doves, and breeds throughout the British Isles and Europe in farmland, woods, parks and gardens.
In winter there are often large influxes of continental birds into Britain from Eastern Europe and Scandinavia.
There are 9 - 12 million breeding pairs of woodpigeons across Europe, of which around 2 1/2 million pairs live in the United Kingdom.
Location: Gloucestershire, England.
