Wildlife and Wild Places - fresh, contemporary photography
-------------------------------------------------
WELCOME:
Duncan Shaw is a 46 year old stock photographer based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, close to the Cairngorm mountains, who specialises in wildlife, nature, landscape and environmental photography.
After growing up on Dartmoor, in north Wiltshire, and in the Yorkshire Dales, he studied geography and zoology at Aberdeen University, before working offshore for twenty years in the North Sea oil industry.
As well as having a passion for wildlife from an early age, Duncan comes from a mountaineering background.
In his twenties he spent several summers in the Alps, solo-climbing Mont Blanc and other high peaks, as well as roughing it in Arctic Norway, the Pyrenees and the USA, and has climbed, skiid, camped, and walked throughout the Scottish Highlands all his adult life.
This background gives him an easy familiarity with remote and wild places, and a profound contentment in their wildlife, weather and landscapes.
Hopefully the viewer, too, can get a taste of things not all of us are lucky enough to see...

Except for a few classic shots which have been scanned from 35mm Fujichrome film using a high-end scanning house, these photographs are modern contemporary images shot as Raw files on a Nikon D2X and individually processed in Adobe Lightroom, giving the highest quality digital files.
Routine tweaking of contrast, brightness and minor blemishes is done but no images are manipulated; they are all "as it looked".
In common with photojournalists and nature photographers worldwide, Duncan feels that one of photography's great strengths as a medium is it's veracity and integrity.
All pictures on this website are of low resolution only, and are the copyright of Duncan Shaw Images.
They can be borrowed free of charge for educational or personal projects, but may not be used commercially without permission and payment of an appropriate licence fee.

Thanks.

"...these stones are at one with the stars.
It makes no difference to them whether they are high or low,
Mountain peak or ocean floor, palace, or pigsty.
There are plenty of ruined buildings in the world but no ruined stones."
